“It’s all about the beer” is the tagline Country Boy Brewing co-owner Daniel Harrison uses to describe the mission and drive that inspires him and co-owners Evan Coppage and Jeff Beagle to create and experiment with new beers.
Harrison shared that on any given day, one can walk into Country Boy Brewing and sample as many as 15 house crafted beers available on tap. The brewery’s name stems from Harrison’s three-year visit to Japan, where he and others started a blog entitled “Good Beer and Country Boys,” in which they would write and document different beer-related findings they encountered.
Harrison, Coppage and Beagle pride themselves on being real Kentucky natives with real Kentucky ideals. They are craftsmen, working with their hands and doing their best to promote shopping local, being organic and emulating the grassroots feel in all they do.
Since opening, Country Boy Brewing has had as many as 30 different house crafted beers available for customers and continues to expand their menu with seasonal selections as well. In addition to the beers they brew in house, they also serve beer from other local breweries to promote local camaraderie amongst brewers as well as maintaining good relationships with other locals in their area of expertise.
Lindley Winchester, UK graduate student, says that she enjoys Country Boy Brewing because it is a “laid back, relaxed place where you can go to get some good beer.” Country Boy Brewing operates with a staff of nine, including the three owners.
“It fit the zoning requirements necessary for a brewery, the location is close to downtown and to UK’s campus and it’s just a 10 minute walk to Rupp Arena,” Harrison said regarding the Chair Avenue location.
Harrison also noted that what makes Country Boy Brewing different from other local breweries is that they take risks, have creative styles of brewing and are constantly experimenting with new recipes. For more information about Country Boy Brewing visit countryboybrewing.com.
