No. 23 Kentucky women’s soccer (9-2-5) triumphed in their final home match of the season against the Missouri Tigers 1-0 on Sunday, Oct. 22.
The early goal scored in the sixth minute by Úlfa Úlfarsdóttir carried the team to a vital win as its season began to close.
Shutout wins have been crucial in determining placement as the Cats move closer to the SEC tournament.
Kentucky has now tallied up the most points in SEC play since 2014, with a total of 13.
This also marks the first time the Wildcats have reached nine wins during a season since 2015.
With Úlfarsdóttir’s fifth goal of the season, the Cats would put points on the board for the first time in two matches.
In the offensive third, Jordyn Rhodes was able to find Grace Hoytink, who hit a cross right in front to give Úlfarsdóttir an easy shot into the open net.
Tanner Strickland continued her impressive freshman season with the only other two shots on goal.
The ball hit the back of the net in the 74th minute by Rhodes off of a corner but was called back after a foul was called on the play.
With her eighth shutout of the season, goalkeeper Marz Josephson secured all three shots Mizzou took.
The crucial win by the Cats hopes to give the team some momentum going into its final regular season game this Thursday, Oct. 25, and secure its spot in the SEC tournament.
