Kentucky hockey earned a significant bounce-back win over the Dayton Flyers on Saturday, winning 12-4.
The club team had a slow start to its season, going into the Dayton game 1-4 overall on a three-game losing streak.
The win over the Flyers marked just the second of the season, both of which have been in dominant fashion.
Kentucky freshman winger Kyle Mead started off the high-scoring affair with the first goal of the game in the first period.
The Cats found their second goal from freshman center Ty Koerbel, which marked earning his first goal as a Kentucky Wildcat. They then went on to put up two more goals in the first period, ending it with a 4-1 lead.
The second period was full of even more Kentucky goals, with the Wildcats ending it with a 9-1 lead, having notched five more goals. One goal was scored by captain Gabe D’amico, two goals came from Nick Delaney and one goal was scored by Gary Eastlack.
In the third period the Cats scored another goal before center Cameron Chabot added Kentucky’s eleventh of the game.
Delaney then went on to score the final goal of the game, the twelfth one of the night for Kentucky and his third, earning him a hat trick.
With the win, Kentucky hockey will look to build off the momentum at home on Saturday, Oct. 14, against the Miami (OH) RedHawks.
Last time the Cats faced the RedHawks was in a 5-4 loss that was decided in the final minutes that took place the day prior to the big win over Dayton.
