Polestar, the performance electric vehicle (EV) subsidiary of Volvo Cars, announced today that the EPA has rated their Polestar 2 sedan long-range Single Motor variant to deliver 270 miles on a single charge. This range is Polestar’s most extensive yet, and one of the longest on the market today. The Polestar 2 long-range Single Motor offers 231 horsepower from its 75.0-kWh battery. Its closest competitor in price and size, the Tesla Model 3, provides 263 miles of range.

Moreover, all dual-motor Polestar 2 owners will soon be able to purchase an over-the-air upgrade that increases horsepower by 67 and torque by 15 pound-feet for a total output of 476 hp and 502 pound-feet. Last year, the automaker released the 2021 Polestar 2 with a 233-mile range for the dual-motor; in August, an update increased its range to 249 miles. The company will soon announce the 2022 Polestar 2 pricing and release date.

Another update, free to all Polestar 2 owners, will also provide the capability to schedule charging sessions, meaning that you can set the EV to charge during off-peak hours when electricity costs less. It will also precondition the battery for quick recharging when the driver places a DC fast charger into the navigation system as a destination. Although Polestar did not enumerate the changes, it will also enhance the previously advanced driving assistance systems features.

Polestar currently sells the numerically named 1 plug-in hybrid GT and the 2 fastback sedan. Polestar will offer the upcoming 3 midsize SUV, 4 compact SUV coupe, and 5 4-door GT currently represented by the Polestar Precept concept car in successive years. In addition, Polestar aims to create the first completely climate-neutral car by 2030.
