Kentucky basketball announced via press release on Monday that the 2022 Blue-White scrimmage will be played in Appalachian Wireless Arena in Pikeville, Kentucky.

The move was made to support the victims of the flooding that plagued much of eastern Kentucky just months ago, with the first announcement coming on Aug. 2 during the open practice and telethon to raise money for the flood victims.

The flooding claimed 40 lives with over 1,300 having to be rescued by first responders or having their homes destroyed.

UK Athletics took action in trying to support the people whose lives had been impacted by the floods raising over $2.4 million dollars in the telethon.

Athletes from teams ranging from the mens basketball team to the womens soccer team answered phone calls and spoke to anyone wishing to donate, with UK’s starting point guard Sahvir Wheeler eventually announcing the Blue-White game moving to Pikeville.

Now almost two months later, the date and location are set in stone with the game taking place on Oct. 22 at 6 p.m. EST inside Appalachian Wireless Arena, the home court of the University of Pikeville Bears, who compete at the NAIA level of college athletics.

In addition to just playing the game in eastern Kentucky, the team will also do community service in the area and host a pregame “Fan Fest” outside the arena prior to tipoff.

“We’re excited to be able to come and play for the fans of eastern Kentucky,” Kentucky head coach John Calipari told UK Athletics. “This is a unique opportunity for the people in our state who have been affected and we hope we can provide a temporary escape with basketball and community engagement.”

All tickets sold for the 2022 Blue-White game will be put into the Team Eastern Kentucky Flood Relief fund to continue UK’s fundraising efforts for the region.
