Ending its seventh season this year, the UK women’s club lacrosse team traveled to Blacksburg, Va. On Saturday where it competed in Virginia Tech’s eighth annual “Lax Out Leukemia” spring tournament, which benefits one of Virginia Tech’s teammates, Erica Bury, who has survived the disease.

The UK team went 2-2 for the weekend, winning against both Radford University and William Mary University, and losing against Penn State and Virginia Tech. The Cats were supposed to play against Wake Forest, however, Wake Forest never showed up to play, so Virginia Tech became their new opponent.

“Our team had their best weekend of lacrosse yet”, Lauren Davis, UK’s head coach and former UK lacrosse player said. “They truly stepped it up this weekend and played their hearts out. We gave each and every team we played a tough game,” she said.

Anne Beaumont, UK junior with position attack wing on the team, said, “Overall, this weekend went very well. I think we played as hard as we could, and worked very well as a team.”

The UK team ended their season with a record of 7-6 after the tournament this weekend.

“The competition and skill level of all teams present for the tournament was off the charts, and even though we are a young team, we didn’t let that stop us,” Davis said.
