More empty seats than fans at Commonwealth

Staff Report

At the UK and Charlotte football game at Commonwealth Stadium, fans will notice more seats empty than filled.

Of the 61,000 seats in the stadium, there are about 10,000 or 12,000 fans.

With both teams entering on a combined 13-game losing streak, the addition of Thanksgiving break and the unfavorable weather, many fans have decided to sit this game out and watch within the comfort of their own homes.

The most noticeable absence is the lack of a student section due to the lack of excitement generated by two teams stuck in a rather large rut. UK coach Mark Stoops’ call for fan support throughout the Cat’s five-game losing streak has gone unheeded, which is a blow to a program that started the year 4-1.
