No. 17 UK Softball was able to close out the Chattanooga Classic today with a 7-1 victory over Evansville, sweeping the event by winning all five games.

The Cats started out right out of the gate up 1-0 in the first after senior infielder Maisie Steed scored on a Katie Reed single to right center.

The hit gave Reed a school record, 16th consecutive game with a hit, the most in the history of UK softball. The freshman has been able to get a hit in every game of the season, a remarkable feat.

Reed eventually scored in the inning after a freshman Abbey Cheek single into left field, pushing the lead out to two runs.

After a scoreless second inning, senior outfielder Sylver Samuel scored on an error in the third, and Reed also scored off a triple and an error by the second baseman. This quick turn of events gave the Cats a 4-0 lead at the end of the third.

Evansville was finally able to get on the board with a Courtney Land homer in the bottom of the fifth, but this would be the lone run for the Aces on the day.

UK pitcher Meagan Prince dominated the rest of the way, only allowing four hits, one run, one walk, and a whopping 12 strikeouts on the day, a new personal record for the junior out of Martin, Tennessee.

A Christian Stokes double to center field brought home Sarah Rainwater and Hannah Huffman on the play, extending the lead to six runs, and would eventually become the final runs on the day.

The Cats will now look ahead to Friday, when they will compete in a double header in the Winthrop Invitational in Rock Hill, South Carolina, against Albany at 11:00 a.m. and Lehigh at 1:00 p.m.
