10 Ultimate Packing Tips
January 1, 2017
Packing can feel like a chore, but following these tips and tricks will ensure stress-free traveling.
- Make a packing list
It is important to start a packing list weeks before the departure in order to avoid forgetting anything. This will allow you to have a stress-free time before departure and give you enough time to go shopping for anything you might be missing. - Check the weather
Pack according to the weather. You never know when a trip to the beach could actually turn out to be a rainy vacation. - Pack light
Decide on what you want to bring and only take half. This ensures that you will not over pack and that you will have room for souvenirs. Pack clothing that you can re-wear to make different outfits by mixing and matching, such as packing two tops for every pair of pants. Don’t think that you have to wear a different outfit every day. Limit the number of shoes you bring as they take up a lot of space. If you are traveling for a short time, just pack a carry on so you don’t have to spend more time at baggage claim once you reach your destination. - Roll your clothes
Rolling your clothes instead of folding is faster and maximizes space. - Never check in essential items
Always pack items that are necessities and valuables in your carry on because your check-in luggage could be delayed or even get lost. I like keeping makeup, facewash, a toothbrush, and even an extra change of clothes in my carry-on. - Know the airline’s limits
It varies from airline to airline, but some airlines will charge extra for checked-in luggage and have limitations for carry-on luggage. - Limit the liquids
Only bring travel sized liquids. If you run out, you can always buy more in your destination. Any liquids, gels, or aerosols that you pack in your carry on must be 3.4 ounces or less and packed inside one 1-quart sized bag.If you need to pack liquids in your carry on, pack them in Ziploc bags to prevent them from leaking in your suitcase and ruining your clothes. - Bring an adapter
Buy a universal adapter if you are traveling international. You will be able to use this in multiple countries. - Weigh your luggage
Buy a luggage scale and weigh your luggage before you head to the airport to avoid any extra overweight fees and hassle at the airport. - Distinguish your suitcase
I always tie a ribbon around the handle of my suitcase to make it stand out in baggage claim. You can mark your suitcase with anything, so no one else will mistake it for theirs. Make sure you put labels on the handle with your name and contact information. The airlines will provide these labels at check-in.
Enjoy your travels!
