Wednesday, the Southeastern Conference league office announced the list of SEC football players voted to the preseason All-SEC teams.

The list included six UK football players: linebacker Jordan Jones, defensive lineman Denzil Ware, tight end C.J. Conrad, running back Benny Snell Jr., safety Mike Edwards and kicker Austin MacGinnis.

Jones and Ware earned second-team defense honors after being some of the best defenders in the conference a season ago, while Conrad and Snell earned spots on the third-team offense roster. Edwards landed a spot on the third-team defense squad and MacGinnis was recognized for his elite play last year with a place on third-team special teams.

Jones was named to the All-SEC first team defense at the end of last season for finishing with the third most tackles per game in the conference (8.4). He also finished the season with 15.5 tackles for loss, leading UK in that category as well.

Ware ranked second to Jones on the team in tackles per loss (12.0) and ended last season with 5.5 sacks, also good for second place on the team.

The other four players are coming off career years as Snell set six freshman rushing records and MacGinnis drilled two game-winning field goals against tough opponents.

Snell is also on the watch list for the Maxwell award, which honors the nation’s best player and the Doak Walker Award, which honors the nation’s best running back.
