Welcome to week three of this six-week series of articles on the pronunciation of Greek letters.

To recap, last week, we had the Greek letters Epsilon, Zeta, Eta and Theta. Now it is time for the next four letters.

1. Iota

Pronounced like (I-O-TA), there is only one Greek organization at UK with Iota in the name and it is NPHC fraternity Iota Phi Theta. Iota, like Eta is rarely used in fraternity and sorority names.

2. Kappa

Pronounced like (Kap-pa), there are numerous fraternities and sororities at UK with Kappa in the name. They are United Greek Council (UGC) sorority Kappa Beta Gamma, three Panhellenic Council sororities Kappa Kappa Gamma, Kappa Delta and Kappa Alpha Theta, one NPHC sorority Alpha Kappa Alpha, and six IFC fraternities Kappa Alpha Order, Kappa Sigma, Pi Kappa Phi, Pi Kappa Alpha, Phi Sigma Kappa, and Phi Kappa Tau.

3. Lambda

Pronounced like (lamb-da), there are only two Greek organizations at UK that use Lambda in their names. They are UGC fraternity Sigma Lambda Beta and UGC sorority Sigma Lambda Gamma.

4. Mu

Pronounced like (mew), there is only one sorority with Mu in the name and it is Panhellenic Council sorority Phi Mu.
