Views of an Active: How to pronounce Greek letters (Part 6)

Last week we talked about the Greek letters Rho, Sigma, Tau and Upsilon.
Now, let’s move on to the last four letters of the Greek alphabet.
1. Phi
Pronounced like (FIGH), Phi is in the name of eight IFC fraternities, it is in every NPHC fraternity, one NPHC sorority, and four Panhellenic Council sororities. The eight IFC fraternities with Phi in their names are Alpha Sigma Phi, Delta Sigma Phi, Phi Delta Theta, Phi Gamma Delta, Phi Kappa Tau, Phi Sigma Kappa, Pi Kappa Phi, and Sigma Phi Epsilon. The NPHC fraternities with Phi in their names are Alpha Phi Alpha, Iota Phi Theta, Omega Psi Phi, and Phi Beta Sigma, and the NPHC sorority is Zeta Phi Beta. The Panhellenic Council sororities with Phi in their names are Alpha Phi, Phi Mu, Phi Sigma Rho, and Pi Beta Phi.
2. Chi
Pronounced like (KAI), Chi is in the names of three IFC fraternities, two Panhellenic Council sororities, and one UGC fraternity. The names of the IFC fraternities with Chi in their names are Chi Psi, Sigma Chi and Theta Chi. The names of the Panhellenic sororities with Chi in their names are Alpha Chi Omega and Chi Omega. The UGC fraternity with Chi in its name is Beta Upsilon Chi.
3. Psi
Pronounced like (SI), Psi is in the name of one IFC fraternity and one NPHC fraternity. Psi isn’t a very popular letter in fraternity and sorority names here at UK. The IFC fraternity with Psi in their name is Chi Psi. The NPHC fraternity with Psi in their name is Omega Psi Phi.
4. Omega
Pronounced exactly like it looks (O-Meg-A), Omega is in the names of one IFC fraternity, one NPHC fraternity, and two Panhellenic Council sororities. The IFC fraternity with Omega in its name is Alpha Tau Omega. The NPHC fraternity with Omega in its name is Omega Psi Phi. The Panhellenic Council sororities with Omega in their names are Alpha Chi Omega and Chi Omega.
