Just hours before the NCAA transfer portal period closed, Kentucky point guard Travis Perry entered his name in, becoming the second scholarship player to leave Lexington in search of a new school and has now landed in Oxford, Mississippi with the Ole Miss Rebels
The home-grown Kentucky player follows in the footsteps of fellow point guard Kerr Kriisa, who has already committed to Cincinnati.
Perry played a hefty and unexpected role at the point this season, running the offense in crucial games against top-ranked opponents, soaking up minutes due to the time-consuming injuries that fellow point guards Lamont Butler and Kriisa faced.
The freshman averaged 2.7 points, 0.8 rebounds and 0.6 assists through 31 games played this past season on an average of 9.8 minutes per night, ripping a 31.3% field-goal percentage and 32.1% 3-point percentage.
Perry’s best offensive performance came against the Alabama Crimson Tide in a 96-83 loss on Feb. 22, engineering a season-high 12 points, one rebound and one assist along with a season-high four steals.
Perry’s decision likely stems from the numerous incoming guards that Mark Pope has solicited to Lexington this off-season: Jasper Johnson, Jaland Lowe and Denzel Aberdeen.
