The University of Kentucky canceled classes and in-person activities on Wednesday, Feb. 19 amid weather-related safety concerns, according to UK Alerts.
In the alert, UK also announced revised operating hours for certain campus facilities, with UK HealthCare to remain open.
The revised operating hours include:
- “Johnson Recreation Center: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
- Alumni Gym: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
- Champions Kitchen closing at 8 p.m.
- Fresh Food Company @ The 90 closing at 8 p.m.
- Retail dining in Gatton Student Center, The 90 and William T. Young Library closing at 8 p.m. with the exception of:
- GSC Subway is closed.
- GSC Starbucks closing at 4 p.m.
- Blue Agave @ The 90 closing at 10 p.m.
- Retail dining in academic buildings are closed today,” according to the alert.
The closure is intended to give not only community crew members time to clear city roads, but also university crew members time to clear campus roads, sidewalks and parking lots.
While snowfall is expected to slow down throughout the day, cold temperatures are expected throughout the week, according to Lex18.
The Feb. 19 closure marks the second weather-related closure at UK this semester.
