In the early hours of Sunday morning after leaving The Hill, a University of Kentucky student was walking behind the S. Limestone Chipotle to head home when five men jumped him, according to a police report.
A video circulating on social media showed Kentucky Kernel TikTok manager Bryce Towle in an altercation outside of The Hill.
Towle released a statement regarding it that reads, “A video that has surfaced that shows me outside of the Hill bar is earlier in the evening and was not the incident that was reported to the police. The assault reported was later in the evening and at a separate location.”
The police report regarding the assault on Jersey Street states that stolen property includes a “green toboggan.”
The video from the bar shows him putting the green beanie back on after an earlier, unrelated incident at The Hill, distinguishing it as a separate event.
The Kernel is waiting on security footage from the Target below The Hub that may show the assault on Jersey Street.
This assault happened right off campus just a day after UK increased safety measures and police patrol due to previous student safety concerns.
According to Towle, he was walked to the emergency room by a friend where doctors ran a CAT scan and gave him stitches under his right eye.
His injuries include a concussion, a swollen black eye, multiple stitches on his cheek, a cracked tooth and multiple bruised ribs according to Towle.
“I was the victim of a spur-of-the-moment violent crime,” Towle said. “I really thought I was going to die, no one thinks it will happen to them until you are face down on the concrete.”
Towle said he feels like he’ll never go back out again.
“I’ll certainly never walk alone again at night, especially where I was,” he said.
Towle said it’s not just the physical injuries he’s recovering from, it’s mental too.
“I know it’s gonna take my mental and emotional wounds a lot longer to heal than my physical,” Towle said.
Towle filed a police report. The Kernel will update this story as more information becomes available.

This is a terrible to happen on a night out. There needs to be better security and CCTV cameras outside all commercial areas on that street. Hope these people are caught and the full force of the law is thrown at them. Use the buddy system when going out and a whistle would be great. Good luck, Bryce!!
