The transfer portal has exploded as the landscape of college athletics has continued to change in recent years.
In terms of volleyball, some teams such as Texas have used the transfer portal boom to greatly improve its roster from season to season, however others have been slow to adapt and catch up to such schools.
One example of this is Kentucky.
The transfer portal was not kind to the Wildcats, as they secured just two transfers over the course of last off season.
Not only this, but the aforementioned Texas Longhorns were able to snag two time All-American and two time All-SEC Reagan Rutherford away from the Wildcats.
While Kentucky hasn’t been quite up to speed with other teams when it has come to the portal, one addition may at least be a good start.
2023 All-Big East star Delaney Hogan transferred over the offseason to UK from Xavier.
While she has only played in four matches so far in 2024, adding players of her caliber is a step in the right direction for a Wildcat squad that hasn’t seen much success in the portal thus far.
However, even with this acquisition, Kentucky still has a lot of ground to make up if it wants to catch some of the transfer portal leaders such as Texas and, with how big the transfer portal has become, it may be the difference between going home early and winning a national title.
