Kentucky women’s soccer (10-1-3) suffered a 3-1 loss versus Vanderbilt Sunday night on the road at the Vanderbilt Sports Complex.
Coming off a win against LSU this previous Thursday, the Cats came into the contest looking to stay in the win column and extend their winning streak to three; the Cats hadn’t lost a game since Sept. 22.
During first-half action, Kentucky opened up the scoring quickly, converting a penalty kick just two minutes in courtesy of Makala Woods. Vanderbilt then leveled the score at the backend of the half, netting a shot in the 42nd minute. The two sides headed to the locker room for halftime deadlocked at one.
Despite the reputation of SEC soccer as a tough, hard-nosed league, only one player found themselves in the referee’s book as UK’s Katherine Truitt was shown a yellow card in the 40th minute of the half.
Unfortunately for the Cats, Vandy came out of the locker room firing, finding the back of the net twice in the first 12 minutes of the half.
Sydney Watts headed the first of the two in while Addie Porter put home a beautiful shot in the top left corner to give the Commodores a decisive 3-1 lead.
Kentucky was unable to answer Vanderbilt’s second half goals and, as a result, saw its win streak come to an end as the scoreboard read 3-1 at the full-time whistle.
Kentucky returns to the pitch on Friday, Oct. 18, at home versus No. 11 Auburn. That match will kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET.
