No. 12 Kentucky volleyball (9-7, 3-2 SEC) fell to No. 7 Texas (10-3 5-0 SEC) in a sweeping loss Sunday in front of 4,834 fans inside Historic Memorial Coliseum.
The total was the sixth largest crowd in program history for UK volleyball.
Texas got off to a quick start by jumping out to a 15-10 lead. Kentucky closed the gap, catching the Longhorns, and tying the set 17-17, forcing Texas to call its first timeout. Following the timeout, Texas managed to win the set 25-21. Kentucky was held to a .114 attack percentage.
In the second set, Texas maintained its momentum by taking a 9-4 lead, which forced an early timeout by the Wildcats. Following the timeout, Texas kept building its lead up to 18-12, pushing Kentucky into its second timeout.
Kentucky gained some footing, leaving its second timeout, but fell short when Texas finished the set 25-19.
Texas continued its early set advantages by taking an 8-4 lead to open set three. The lead grew 12-7 as Kentucky tried to stay alive.
After the Wildcats called a timeout, Texas continued to grow its lead to 19-12. Following Kentucky’s second timeout of the set, Texas closed it out 25-17.
Offensively, the leader for the Cats was Brooklyn DeLeye. DeLeye had 12 kills on 33 swings, three digs and a block accompanying her double-digit kills.
Senior Emma Grome broke a streak of 11-straight matches with 30 or more assists with a recorded 29 assists while sophomore Molly Tuozzo controlled Kentucky’s defense with her 12 recorded digs.
Kentucky returns to action on the road as it will travel to Knoxville, Tennessee, to play the Lady Volunteers on Wednesday, Oct. 16, at 6:30 p.m. ET.
