Gov. Andy Beshear was announced to be on the Time100 Next list.
Beshear was nominated alongside stars such as C.J. Stroud, Sabrina Carpenter, Reneé Rapp and 96 other influential individuals amongst five categories, on Wednesday, Oct 2.
On X, formally known as Twitter, Beshear said he was “honored to be part of the #TIME100Next list.”
According to TIME magazine the 100 Next list was created in order to showcase influential leaders of the modern day.
Beshear was named in the “Leaders” category, including 18 other prominent government officials worldwide. Beshear’s ability to win the 2023 gubernatorial election as a Democratic candidate in a deeply red state for his second term earned him his name on the list, according to TIME magazine.
TIME magazine attributes Beshear’s nomination to his ability to appeal to all political views.
“He has managed to lead his conservative state even as a Republican supermajority at the statehouse routinely sends him veto-destined legislation, delivering on big ideas like legalizing medical marijuana and expanding Medicaid to cover vision and dental care,” TIME said.
Beshear made Vice President Harris’s shortlist for potential running mates earlier in the year, initially captivating TIME magazine and ultimately earning him a spot in their top 100 Next, TIME magazine said.
“We’re changing the way the country sees Kentucky moving forward for all our families. Together, we’re showing folks our new Kentucky home, where opportunity and prosperity are possible for everyone,” Beshear said on Instagram in response to this nomination.
Beshear is expected to attend the honorees’ gathering in October in New York City.
