The University of Kentucky remains open and operating on Friday, Sept. 27, as inclement weather affects Lexington, Kentucky.
In an email sent by UK Police to students and faculty on Sept. 26, UK Police said that a wind advisory is in effect from 7 a.m. Friday to 2 a.m. Saturday.
“While we are actively monitoring this weather impact, we intend to remain open on Friday, Sept. 27,” the email said.
Instructors and supervisors were asked to remain flexible as students navigated the weather.
A flood watch has been in effect from Thursday evening through Saturday morning according to the email.
The university’s bus system also told students to expect a bus delay. A notification from the Transit bus-tracking app said, “Adverse weather and traffic are affecting campus bus route service. Please expect delays.”
Nicholasville Road has been shut down in both directions between Alumni Drive and Cooper Drive due to downed wires on the road, Lexwrecks said in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The university provided resources in the email regarding emergencies such as storms. They issued the following protocols concerning storm sheltering:
- “Report to the recommended shelter locations, which are marked on the emergency floor plans posted throughout your building.
- If shelter locations are unavailable, protect yourself from lightning and flying debris by moving to an interior room or hallway on the building’s lowest level.
- Avoid outside doors and windows, get under a sturdy table and use your arms to protect your head and neck,” the email said.
