After missing the first four weeks of the season with a broken hand, running back DeaMonte “Chip” Trayanum has been cleared to play.
Although his status for this weekend’s match up with the Ole Miss Rebels is still in the air, head coach Mark Stoops confirmed on his radio show that he is practicing and potentially ready for contact.
“We’ll see what type of strength he has in that hand,” Stoops said on the show. “It was operated on, so we’ll see how he comes along and what he’s like here throughout the week.”
Trayanum transferred to Kentucky after racking up 373 yards and three touchdowns at Ohio State a season ago, but has yet to make his debut in blue and white.
Trayanum will reintroduce visions of a running-back-by-committee system as Demie Sumo-Karngbaye has filled the starting role handsomely through four weeks with 274 yards and three touchdowns.
Stoops has yet to confirm if Chip will be good to go for this weekend’s game in Oxford, meaning fans are most likely to see him in a Kentucky uniform after the bye week against Vanderbilt on Oct. 12, though the possibility remains.
The Wildcats will travel to Oxford, Mississippi, for their first road game of the season on Saturday, Sept. 28. Kickoff is scheduled for noon ET and will air live on ABC.
