No. 20 Kentucky women’s soccer (8-0-1, 0-0-1 SEC) tied with the Florida Gators (3-1-5, 0-0-1 SEC) 0-0 to open conference play Thursday.
While the Cats’ offense struggled in the first half, their defense kept the game tied as it only allowed one shot from the Gators.
“I think, obviously, as a team, effort-wise, defensively, we were really good.” head coach Troy Fabiano said.
Maddie Kemp had a shot to take the lead in the 57th minute, but was stopped by Florida goalkeeper Alexa Goldberg.
The Cats had another opportunity in the 86th minute, but just came up short as Grace Hoytink was just wide of the goal on her shot.
Neither team was able to get another shot off for the remainder of the game, making the final score a 0-0 draw.
The match marked the first time this season that the Cats have been shut out.
“I think we just rushed things,” Fabiano said. “I think we have to be a little more patient.”
The Cats will look for their first SEC win as they go on the road to face the South Carolina Gamecocks on Sunday at Eugene E. Stone III Stadium. Kickoff will be at 2 p.m. ET.
