UK men’s golf started its season in the Folds of Honor Collegiate in Michigan, finishing day one in ninth place out of 15 total schools.
Wildcat junior Jack Schoenberger started his day going one-under-par on 34 strokes through nine holes. He then capped off his individual performance by tying for 18th and totaling 73 strokes through 18 holes on day one.
Another notable performance on the green was Gavin Clutts, who introduced himself to the collegiate scene. The Wildcat freshman ended the day five-over-par with a 71 and placed tied for 44th on day one of his debut.
Clutts is Kentucky’s only freshman playing in the Folds of Honor Collegiate among the five golfers competing for the university.
The UK five, as a team, are 14-over through 18 holes on day one, placing them ninth as a team behind Ohio State, Florida State, Grand Valley State, Michigan State, Texas, Notre Dame, Illinois and Alabama, with Bama ending the day in first place.
Playing for UK was graduate student Jackson Klutznick, senior Jansen Preston, Schoenberger, sophomore Solomon Petrie and Clutts.
Klutznick ended the day with the highest score of the five Wildcats playing in Michigan, ending at 11-over-par with a 71, placing 72nd of the 75 total competitors on day one.
Last year, the team opened its season identically, starting at the Folds of Honor Collegiate with a sixth place finish scoring 19-over-par as a team. At that competition, former Cat Alex Goff finished the tournament tied for second individually.
Day two of the Folds of Honor Collegiate will commence on Sept. 10th in Grand Haven Michigan.
