Kentucky football’s (1-0) journey to break into the AP Top 25 will continue for another week after not finding its name among this week’s AP Poll.
While the number of votes doesn’t ultimately matter when it comes to teams outside of the rankings, the Wildcats took a step back from nine to two when it comes to received votes despite beating Southern Miss 31-0 in a shortened contest.
Eight SEC squads earned spots in the top 25, with No. 1 Georgia (1-0) finding itself in its usual stop atop the mountain of college football as Texas (1-0) and Alabama (1-0) both climbed one spot each to earn the No. 3 and No. 4 spots respectively.
Ole Miss (1-0) stayed put at No. 6 after scoring 76 points against Furman with Missouri (1-0) following suit as it retained its ranking at No. 9.
Tennessee (1-0) rose one spot in the rankings to No. 15 after a 69-3 victory over UT-Chattanooga, with the now No. 16 Oklahoma Sooners (1-0) riding a 51-3 win to a one-spot ascension.
Two SEC teams dropped in ranking, with the LSU Tigers (0-1) dropping five spots to No. 18 after being bested by Lincoln Riley’s USC Trojans (1-0), who climbed 10 spots to No. 13 after the neutral-site victory.
Texas A&M (0-1) acted as the other SEC squad to take a downturn, with a home loss to now No. 5 Notre Dame (1-0) dropping the Aggies out of the top 25 after initially being ranked No. 20.
Looking at significant out of conference movement, a 34-3 loss to Georgia dropped the Clemson Tigers (0-1) 11 spots to No. 25 and Oregon (1-0) dropped four spots to No. 7 despite a 24-14 victory over Idaho.
Kentucky will look to earn a spot in next week’s AP Poll as it takes on South Carolina (1-0) on Saturday, Sept. 7, at Kroger Field with kickoff slated for 3:30 p.m. ET.
