Kentucky women’s soccer hit the road for the first time and secured its fifth win of the season on Saturday.
The result marked the first time the team has been 5-0 since 2012.
With a recent draw against Missouri and a comfortable victory against Illinois State, Illinois proved its no slouch, further adding to the importance of the UK win.
The teams committed 15 fouls throughout the game as the Wildcats outshot Illinois 10-8 with five shots on goal to the Illini’s three. Kentucky forced four saves from the home team and the corner kick battle ended at four each.
Within the first 20 minutes of the game, Makala Woods, an Illinois transfer, gave the Wildcats the lead against her previous school.
With the score standing at 1-0 at halftime, the Wildcats increased their lead to 2-0 after seven minutes when Grace Hoytink scored easily against the defense to expand the Cats’ lead.
Illinois scored a goal back seven minutes later, passing by Marzia Josephson with a well-placed shot. In the last 15 minutes, the Wildcats tightened up defensively to win their sixth-straight match.
