Kentucky women’s soccer (2-0) beat Morehead State (0-1-1) by a score of 2-0 on Sunday night.
The Cats dominated the first half defensively, as Morehead State was unable to attempt a single shot in the first half.
The offense took a little longer to get going, but eventually found momentum as freshman Abigail Stager scored in the 37th minute to give the Cats a 1-0 lead.
The Wildcats extended their lead early in the second half as senior Makala Woods knocked in a successful penalty kick to make the score 2-0.
Kentucky was unable to score any more goals for the rest of the game, in large part due to Morehead State goalkeeper Claire Cress’ three saves in the half.
The Cats’ defense, however, allowed them to hold on to the lead, and win the match 2-0. The Cats only allowed two shots throughout the entire match and none were on goal.
Kentucky will return to action against Detroit Mercy on Thursday, August 22, at the Wendell & Vickie Bell Soccer Complex with kickoff scheduled for 5:30 p.m. ET.
