Following the conclusion of the Lexington Regional — swept by the hosting Kentucky Wildcats — a host of home players were honored with All Tournament Team honors.

The most notable of these was the Lexington Regional Most Outstanding Player: Ryan Nicholson.

The slugging lefty went 3-11 on the weekend, which was good for a .272 batting average, but he also notched two home runs and four RBIs.

Another Wildcat who had a stellar weekend at the plate and earned All Tournament Team honors was leftfielder Ryan Waldschmidt, who went 5-13, which equaled out to .384 batting average, and recorded four RBIs and a home run.

The next Wildcat to earn All Tournament Team honors was catcher Devin Burkes. The 2023 Lexington Regional Most Outstanding Player batted .300, going 3-10 with an RBI. Another element of Burkes’ game that impressed during the regional was his stellar defensive play.

Another one of his teammates who earned All Tournament Team honors in part due to his defensive performance was Émilien Pitre. The second baseman also went 3-13, which was good for a .230 batting average, to go along with four RBIs and a home run.

Rounding out the Cats’ position players on the All Tournament Team was third baseman Mitchell Daly, who hit .416 on the weekend, going 5-12 with two RBIs.

The first pitcher for the Wildcats that earned All Tournament Team honors was Trey Pooser, who pitched seven innings in game two, giving up five hits and one earned run while only walking two batters and striking out seven.

The final Wildcat on the All-Tournament was game three starter Mason Moore, who pitched six shutout innings in which he gave up four hits while walking three batters and striking out six.

All group contributed to Kentucky’s regional sweep, advancing to the first hosted Super Regional in school history this weekend against Oregon State.
