The University of Kentucky will be undergoing a full-scale active aggressor crisis exercise on Thursday, May 30.
The exercise will begin around 8 a.m. and will finish in the afternoon, according to a school-wide email sent to students on Wednesday, May 29.
The exercise will be hosted by the UK Police Department and the Department of Crisis Management and Preparedness, and will take place across UK’s campus.
UKPD said to not be alarmed if large numbers of emergency response teams, like police, fire and EMS are present on campus.
“At UK, the safety of our students, faculty and staff is our top priority. This drill is just one example of many measures we take throughout the year to ensure we are prepared in the event of an emergency,” the email said.
In addition to the exercise, the 2024 Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA) Track & Field State Championships will take place on UK’s campus on Thursday.
The Class 1A competition will start at 9 a.m. and end around noon. Class 2A meet will start at 9 a.m. Friday, and Class 3A will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
The email said to contact the non-emergency line for further questions, which can be reached at 859-257-8573.
