UK football names starting quarterback

The Kentucky Wildcats named redshirt sophomore Patrick Towles the starting quarterback Monday after a three-way duel between freshman Drew Barker and redshirt freshman Reese Phillips.

Head coach Mark Stoops announced via Twitter that he is confident in Towles in moving the team forward.

Towles, a 6-foot-5, 238 pound quarterback played in five games during his freshman year, completing 19 of 40 passes for 233 yards and one touchdown. Towles redshirted last season as junior Maxwell Smith and Jalen Whitlow led the Wildcats to a 2-10 record in Stoops first season at the helm.
