Comedy Caravan will celebrate its 300th show Wednesday, hosting comedian Christian Finnegan on stage in the Cats Den.

“I’ve seen his specials and I think he is really funny,” event coordinator Steve Pearce said. “I’m looking forward to meeting him. Out of all of the comedians, he reached out to us saying he really wanted to do the show.”

Finnegan is known for his role in television shows like “Are We There Yet?” and “Comedy Central Presents,” among others in his 17-year comedy career.

“I like to do smart takes on stupid topics and stupid takes on smart topics,” Finnegan said on his style of comedy. “Stand-up has always been the one thing that delivers the emotional abuse that I need in my life.”

When on stage at college campuses, Finnegan said he always keeps in mind what he was thinking about when he was in college.

“I wouldn’t bother telling a college audience too much of married life,” he said. “I’m older, but I’m also a comedian – I don’t have an adult life. I live like a college student in many ways.”

Finnegan performs anywhere between four and 15 shows a week and he said he tries to stop at universities at least once every three months. He said he is looking forward to Wednesday’s performance.

Pearce said he will open for Finnegan with his own act. Other acts will include Beau Davis, who won the “Funniest Kid on Campus” comedy show last year, and Ross Duncliffe, who started Comedy Caravan at UK in 2002.

“The 300th show is very important because it is a milestone of how long it’s been running and stood the test of time,” Pearce said. “It’s also a milestone of how Comedy Caravan is just as funny, if not funnier than when it first started.”

Pearce is hoping for the show to be standing room only, which is roughly 140 people, he said. Regular shows bring about 70 people.

Comedy Caravan uses a booker out of Louisville and has normally has a budget of between $750 to $1,000. But for the 300th show, Pearce and the Cats Den allotted $5,000.
