New Orleans drafts Nerlens Noel with sixth overall pick

Former UK center Nerlens Noel was drafted sixth overall by the New Orleans Pelicans on Thursday at the 2013 NBA Draft.

Pending league approval, Noel will be traded to the Philadelphia 76ers.

Canadian Anthony Bennett, a 6-foot-8 forward out of University of Nevada, Las Vegas was selected first overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Orlando took Indiana guard Victor Oladipo with the second overall pick, while Washington took Georgetown forward Otto Porter Jr. third overall and Indiana center Cody Zeller went to Charlotte at No. 4.

Noel was still left on the board when Maryland center Alex Len was taken by Phoenix at No. 5.

UK head coach John Calipari was on-hand at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. as Noel’s name was called.
