The UK football team lost to Mississippi State 27-14 Saturday afternoon at Commonwealth Stadium.

After going down 14-0 early, true freshman Patrick Towles made his collegiate debut, leading the Cats down the field 8o yards for a touchdown.

In his first series, Towles was 5-5 for 71 yards and a touchdown. But, after being sacked on the subsequent offensive series, Towles sprained his ankle and never returned.

Fellow true freshman Jalen Whitlow played the rest of the game at quarterback, but the offense could never muster up enough consistency to hang with the Bulldogs.
