Calipari shuts down NBA rumors before they begin
March 14, 2012
Reports of New York Knicks coach Mike D’Antoni’s departure from the team surfaced Wednesday afternoon.
Minutes later, head coach John Calipari jumped out in front of any potential rumors — and over the past few years, there’s been a lot of them, especially concerning the Knicks — and reaffirmed his desire to stay at UK.
“As I’ve said before, I have the greatest job in basketball at any level. Why would I be interested in another job?” Calipari tweeted. “I love being the coach of the commonwealth’s team. To the #BBN& all the recruits that are coming or want to come, I will be at Kentucky.”
About an hour after that, Calipari was asked at an NCAA Tournament press conference if the possible rumors would be a distraction.
“Every job that’s open, including high school and AAU jobs, my name is mentioned,” Calipari said. “So no. I just wanted to say, I have a great job. The best in the profession.”
