3 things we learned: UK 79, South Carolina 64

Three things we learned in UK’s 79-64 win over South Carolina:

1. Terrence Jones was back, at least for this game, scoring 20 points on 8 of 9 shooting. It’s his second-highest scoring output of the season, behind his 26 points against St. John’s. Given Jones’ inconsistency, I would wait until Jones turns in a game like this one a couple more times before proclaiming him “back.” Still, it was a nice start after scoring 25 combined points over the past five games.

2. Anthony Davis continues to climb up the school’s block chart. He’s at 74 now after blocking seven against South Carolina, putting him at No. 2 on the freshman single-season record list and five behind record holder Jamaal Magloire. He’s also 9 away from the school’s single-season record, regardless of year. And that’s through 16 games.

Davis also scored 12 points, his ninth double-double on the year.

3. Marquis Teague had one of his best games, scoring 17 points on 6 of 10 shooting with four assists and three turnovers. He displayed good control of the offense and found a good balance between driving to score and driving to set up his teammates. Like Jones, I wouldn’t mark this as a definitive turnaround. But, like Jones, it is a start for the freshman point guard who has struggled recently.
