Finger injury hurts Terrence Jones’ chance at bounce-back game

Terrence Jones was ready to bounce back from his dismal game against Indiana, ready to prove the haters wrong.

“Terrence really worked hard in practice to prepare for this game and prove people wrong,” Anthony Davis said.

But an injury to the pinky finger of his shooting hand — UK officially called it a “finger injury,” head coach John Calipari said it was dislocated — stopped those chances, as he was limited to 10 minutes of playing time, scoring zero points on three shots and grabbing one rebound.

Against the Hoosiers, nobody could tell what was wrong with him. Against Chattanooga, it was painfully obvious.

“It bothered him the whole game,” Davis said.

When the injury first occurred, Jones just walked off the court in the middle of play.

Two other times, Jones had to be removed from the game and checked out by trainers.

“He tried to come back and play, but just couldn’t do it,” Calipari said. “He tried to play. I’ve got to give him credit. He tried to go back in and fight.”

UK said Jones is day-to-day, and Calipari said he didn’t know how long Jones might be out.

Davis thinks it will just compound how he felt after the Indiana game.

“He’s going to come out next game with even more of a vengeance to prove people wrong.”
