Since the media aren’t allowed to comment on practices, let’s use this opportunity to discuss.

Vargas’ dunk showcased his ability to run the floor — remember, running the floor is Vargas’ best trait, according to Dominican Republic assistant coach Del Harris — and that is a good quality to look for in the senior big man. Granted, in this clip he’s only going up against two defenders — neither of whom were in good position to guard him — but the fact that he got down the floor quick enough to get behind the defense is a positive.

As for Davis’ dunk, well, it showcases exactly why head coach John Calipari wants to run more pick-and-roll. Davis’ skill set is well suited for the type of dives from the perimeter that led to this dunk. Davis and Marquis Teague will make a dynamic pick-and-roll duo throughout the year. If teams hedge on Teague, Davis has the explosiveness to get through or behind the defense. If teams try to stay with both players, Teague has the quickness to drive the lane. And if teams switch, well, that’s just dumb, because then Anthony Davis would be guarded by a point guard.
