Cool Cats split two weekend games

The UK hockey team split two home games against the Ohio State University this past weekend, winning Friday 5 – 2 and falling on Saturday 2 – 0.

Saturday’s game was evenly matched, with both teams playing physically.  The effort was there for UK to win, as there were plenty of scoring opportunities, however the cats just couldn’t seem to put the puck in the net.

The cats had two shots ricochet off the post and one connect with the cross bar. One more inch on any of these shots would have given UK the goal.

UK had trouble breaking the puck out of the defensive zone for much of the game, resulting in turnovers near the net. OSU was able to capitalize on these turnovers with goals in the first and second periods.

Sophomore goaltender Aaron Tenfelde played an excellent game, as UK was outshot in the match.  Tenfelde was able to turn away some quick shots to help keep UK in the game.  Unfortunately for the Cool Cats, the offense couldn’t find the back of the OSU net.

UK will play next Friday at the Lexington Ice Center against in-state rival Louisville at midnight.
