One-year anniversary of Mr. Wildcat’s death

Tuesday was the one-year anniversary of the death of Bill Keightley, affectionately known as “Mr. Wildcat.” He died March 31, 2008, at the age of 81.

Keightley first started with the UK men’s basketball program in 1962 under Adolph Rupp. He spent 48 seasons on the sideline — including serving under six different coaches: Rupp, Joe B. Hall, Eddie Sutton, Rick Pitino, Tubby Smith and Billy Gillispie.

Keightley died at the University of Cincinnati Hospital from internal bleeding caused by a previously undiagnosed tumor on his spine. “Mr. Wildcat” was attending the Cincinnati Reds season opener, where he fell, causing the internal bleeding.
