Dead Week proposal just an excuse to be lazy, make college classes easier

It is truly shocking to hear that a proposal is coming before the Student Government Senate asking to change the rules for Dead Week. This is a proposal that, at its core, is nothing more than a glorified whine.

Students have no right to demand a change in how instructors design their classes. Professors know and understand what material needs to be covered and are trained to present it in the best way possible. If this means that assignment due dates fall during the week before finals, so be it.

Let’s be clear: There’s nothing inherently wrong with asking a teacher that a due date be changed. However, it’s important to understand that the decision is ultimately that of the professor, and it is the responsibility of the student to adhere to that decision.

In response to this proposal, I’d like to offer an alternative proposal for a 100-year moratorium on the phrase “Dead Week” here at UK. Maybe then no one will have a reason to cry about how hard life is. This is college; it’s supposed to be hard. Suck it up, do the work, get over it.

It is my sincere hope that the SG Senate unanimously votes against this measure.
