Kentucky womens soccer (6-0-4, 0-0-3 SEC) gained its third straight draw (1-1) in SEC play against the Florida Gators on Sunday, Sept. 24, to continue its undefeated season.
The prior week, the Cats faced off against South Carolina, showcasing an impressive defensive match for both teams.
The 1-1 score moved the Cats to three conference points on the season thus far, totaling more than they gained last season.
Kentucky is now undefeated in its first 10 matches, which the Wildcats have not seen since 2005.
The Gators would find the net first, scoring in the 37th minute by senior Emily Yapley to give them an advantage going into the half.
In the second half, Kentucky found momentum on both sides, holding the Gators to only one shot on goal and launching three shots on goal of their own.
The Cats would win the shots on goal battle 4-3.
Kentucky eventually leveled the match in the 65th minute when graduate transfer Maya Lacognato scored her second goal of the season off assists from midfielder freshman Tanner Strickland and graduate forward Jordyn Rhodes.
For Strickland, that assist would be her fifth of the season and also a team best. This marked the most by a freshman since Marissa Bosco had five in 2016.
With the draw, the Wildcats aim to keep their undefeated streak as they head back to Lexington to face Alabama on Friday, Sept. 29, at the Wendell & Vickie Bell Soccer Complex.
