This Halloween is calling for creativity and pop culture
October 31, 2022
I am a huge fan of Halloween. It’s filled with all of my favorite things: eating candy, going to parties with friends and most importantly, dressing up.
Halloween is your chance to be someone else for a night. Whether you’re going solo, in a friend group or as a couple, there are plenty of options for everybody. So what I don’t understand is why I’m seeing less and less creativity every year.
Every Halloween, I never fail to see the same overdone – and sometimes poorly done – costumes. That list includes but is not limited to a vampire, the angel and devil duo, a cat or Harley Quinn.
I don’t see anything wrong with these costumes. I understand the appeal. They’re classic and dependable. I’m even guilty of being a cat. I just think that people could be more creative, myself included.
However, ignoring the costumes I listed previously and others alike, I think I have a pretty good idea of what some of the most popular costumes will be this year.
Unfortunately, I believe that Jeffrey Dahmer will be a popular costume this year. I find it inappropriate and strange to want to dress up as someone as awful as he was, but the new Netflix series, “Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” has taken social media by storm.
Audio from the show has been trending on TikTok, as well as the dance moves done in the show by actor Evan Peters who portrays Dahmer. It would be a simple costume for a blonde haired boy with glasses.
Dressing up as a serial killer from a fictional movie is one thing, but Dahmer did unimaginably awful things to real people. As much as I don’t want to see it, I’m sure it will be done.
Moving on down the list, any character from Stranger Things is going to be popular this year, but especially Eddie Munson. He was the outcast, rock’n’roll-loving, Dungeons and Dragons-playing unexpected hero. The character stole the hearts of millions and then broke the hearts of millions following his death.
To go with Eddie, I think that another character named Chrissy will be popular as well. It could be a couples costume or just a duo costume. Although Eddie and Chrissy were not together in the show, a lot of fans believe they would have been if Chrissy was not killed off in the first episode.
The two characters share the “Chrissy, wake up,” scene which led to several trends on TikTok, including a song that was made out of the audio.
Top Gun is definitely going to be a widely-chosen costume this year as well following the release of “Top Gun: Maverick.” They make costumes for all genders and it can be done individually, as a couple or as a group.
This is actually a costume I’m going to love seeing. Especially if you look remotely similar to Miles Teller as Rooster.
Cassie and Maddie from “Euphoria” would be the perfect costume for a pair of best friends or frenemies, for that matter.
The two were a dynamic duo in season one that ended in a slap fight in season two.
Hopefully anyone who decides on this costume doesn’t have a night full of drama, backstabbing and a full-blown musical exposing all of their deepest secrets.
There are plenty of different looks from the show for each character, so you have several choices and room to be creative.
Elvis and Priscilla Presley will likely be a popular costume this year as well, either as a duo or as individuals. The release of “Elvis” earlier this year prompted a whole new age of fangirls for the deceased singer.
The only thing is, I would hope that whoever dresses up as Elvis does their best impression of him all night long.
And last but not least: Barbie and Ken. I see this costume every year, however, a new Barbie movie is coming out starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling.
Although it has not been released yet, several behind the scenes photos have been circulating around social media. Robbie and Gosling aren’t your traditional Barbie and Ken, so I think it will spark a new wave of costumes inspired by the characters.
