Brooks honored in Maker’s Mark series for charity

Maker’s Mark is adding another blue and white bottle to its collection, this time honoring the success of UK football head coach Rich Brooks.

The new addition is included in the Maker’s Mark/Keeneland limited edition charitable bottle series that supports UK projects. This year’s bottle will feature Brooks, celebrating the turnaround of the football program at UK.

Maker’s Mark, Keeneland and Brooks will team up with the UK Symphony Orchestra to raise money for a program that allows the orchestra to visit various outreach programs throughout Kentucky, according to John Nardolillo, director of the UK Symphony Orchestra. The orchestra will perform for elementary schools and their communities throughout the commonwealth.

The proceeds from the sales of the bottles, an expected $200,000 from 18,000 bottles, will be donated by Maker’s Mark to the extension program of the UK Symphony Orchestra. Given the sales of the bottles are successful, UK will secure matching grants that may create funding of more than $1.2 million.

The program, developed by Nardolillo, will introduce third and fourth graders to music and the performing arts. Nardolillo said the generosity of Maker’s Mark and Keeneland will have a lasting impact on the children who encounter the program.

“There are 33 performing arts centers in Kentucky and we plan to play in all of them,” Nardolillo said at a news conference Monday.

Bill Samuels, Maker’s Mark president, presented the limited edition bottle, the first in the UK Fine Arts Outreach series.

The bottles will go on sale Friday April 3, opening day of Keeneland’s 2009 meeting. Price for the bottles should range from $45 to $49.

Tickets for the bottle signing at Keeneland will be distributed in the evening on April 9. Brooks, Samuels and Keeneland President Nick Nicholson will be present at the signing beginning at 6:30 a.m. April 10, the day of the Grade-1 Maker’s Mark Mile.
