Archie Goodwin commits to UK

Archie Goodwin, a five-star shooting guard in the Class of 2012, committed to UK Tuesday night, according to ESPN’s Dave Telep and Goodwin’s Twitter.

Telep, ESPN’s recruiting analyst, first reported the news on Twitter. Minutes later, Goodwin confirmed the news himself on his Twitter page.

Goodwin, a Little Rock, Ark., native, had a final three of UK, Memphis and Arkansas. He is rated the No. 12 on Rivals and No. 13 on ESPN.

Goodwin is UK’s first commitment from the Class of 2012.

“Me committing will probably get the ball rolling for the rest of the class. It’s got to start somewhere,” Goodwin told Telep. (Read Telep’s story here.)

In the last few weeks, Goodwin has been waffling on when he was ready to make a decision. He was originally scheduled to choose a school in the spring. Last week, he said on Twitter he had a “change of heart” and was ready, before rescinding that and saying he was back to deciding in the spring. Now, he’s committed to UK.

“He attacks the rim with reckless abandon whenever there is an opening, and he knows how to finish with authority,” CBS recruiting analyst Jeff Borzello wrote. “Goodwin is very difficult to stop off the dribble, and his first step is one of the best.”
