SAB provides messy, artsy relaxation to students
August 24, 2017
There is no better way to end the first week back to school than with a much-needed stress reliever.
Students were invited to The 90 Thursday night to do just that in a messy, creative and exciting way with a few darts and paint-filled balloons.
The UK Student Activities Board held the Dart Art event for students, which allowed them to blow off steam with darts and paint, ending in some fun and unique masterpieces.
Students were each given a white canvas to pin several paint balloons to, then they dressed in some fashionable ponchos and protective goggles, with their canvases perched on easels a few feet in front of them. SAB director and UK senior Courtney Marburger gave students the green light to start throwing their darts and making their masterpieces.
“This is the first time we’ve ever tried Dart Art. So far, it’s been a lot of fun and there’s definitely a lot of people interested,” Marburger said. “We’re really trying to reach a larger audience. I think having something with canvases, everyone is interested and anyone can throw a dart. Anyone can get involved and it creates something pretty cool afterwards.”
For many of the students that participated in the Dart Art event, it got them out of their dorms to socialize with friends, whether they were first time guests or regular attendees of SAB events.
UK senior Anabelle Williams said Dart Art was a great way to get students involved on campus rather than just going to classes then straight back to dorms. It allows them to interact with other students and really open up to the whole college experience, not just the academic part of it.
SAB also has many other exciting events lined up throughout August to help get students engaged in campus life and to kick off the fall semester. Its full calendar can be seen on its website.
