Police responded to a motor vehicle and bicycle collision outside of the Johnson Center around 7 p.m. on Monday.

Eyewitnesses said cyclist Carlos Sierra was riding his bike against traffic flow on Complex Drive when his bike and a car collided.

Eyewitness Edward Brown said the car was pulling out from a parked position when it hit Sierra.

“He kinda flipped over,” Brown said.

He also said Sierra was going very fast and didn’t appear to be watching where he was going.

“It all just happened really fast,” Brown said.

The driver of the car, who asked not to be named, said he was backing out when Sierra hit him. He said he did not see Sierra coming because he was riding the wrong way.

Sierra told the responders that he was only on campus to visit his son. He is currently being treated for his injuries.
