First responders answered a call about a smoke smell at the Don and Cathy Jacobs Science Building on Saturday night, but nothing was found, said UK spokesperson Kathy Johnson.

Around 10 p.m. on Dec. 2, at least three Lexington Fire Department vehicles and three UK Police Department vehicles were parked on Hilltop Avenue in front of the science building.

A gas substance, which Johnson confirmed was steam, was pouring from two grates in the ground in the lawn beside the building.

Employees from UK Facilities Campus Physical Plant Division were also on site. One employee said he was unable to give any details about the situation.

The Don and Cathy Jacobs Science Building is worth $112 million and was just finished in 2016.
