How to stay healthy in Kentucky’s ever changing weather
April 12, 2018
We all have become accustomed to hearing about how bad Kentucky’s weather is, and a lot of people in our community from out of state could probably confirm that if asked. Kentucky’s weather is at an all-time whirlwind, especially this “Spring.”
Being from out of state, I have become used to hearing all about how Kentucky’s weather changes all the time, but I had never seen such changing weather until this year. From wearing a dress one day to slipping on ice the next, Kentucky gives everyone a run for their money.
Just when you think Spring time is finally here, a sprinkle of snow falls from the sky and all the flowers that were almost bloomed are now dead. To make matters worse, staying healthy in weather like Kentucky’s is even harder.
I have fallen victim to the sickness this Spring along with many other UK students. While the beautiful Spring weather is a breath of fresh air, it also brings back allergy season, which for many people is not enjoyable.
Some of the best ways to veer yourself away from the sicknesses that come with the changing weather is to drink a lot of water. This is always a good idea, even if you aren’t becoming sick, because water will keep you hydrated and help you feel better.
Although water is always a great option to use to stay hydrated, giving your body its daily vitamins is appropriate as well. Fresh fruit juices are usually loaded in richness with Vitamin C and help your immune system.
One of the main reasons why people get sick during the change in weather is because they aren’t dressed properly. Many times people see the sun come out and think the weather will be automatically warmer outside. Although the sun may be out and shining, the temperature still may be too chilly to bring out the shorts and tank tops.
Peyton Roach, a UK student and Kentucky native, spoke about how she stays healthy through the drastic changes in weather.
“One way that I have always tried to adjust to the changing weather is that I make sure to drink more water than I usually do,” Roach said. “My mom has also always told me that whenever I even begin to feel sick that I should rest, and so I do that as well during this time of the year.”
Resting is an important aspect to find room for in your day no matter what time of the year it is. Without having a good night’s rest, your whole day could leave you feeling more exhausted than normal.
During the crazy weather changes in Kentucky, it is important to make sure that you are taking the precautions to ensure you stay healthy. By drinking water and getting your essential daily vitamins, your immune system will be given a boost and you will feel healthier. Making sure that you are getting a good night’s sleep is always important, especially when you feel yourself starting to become sick.
With all of these different techniques for staying healthy in Kentucky’s ever changing weather, you should be able to stay feeling good or go back to feeling better in no time.
