Kentucky takes on Florida this week in the blood center’s annual Cats vs. Gators blood battle.

Big Blue Slam, Jan. 14-18, is the Kentucky Blood Center’s week-long blood drive competition against the KBC and LifeSouth Community Blood Centers in Gainesville, Florida, according to a blood center press release.

Throughout the week, there will be several mobile blood donation spots all over UK’s campus. According to the press release, the interstate blood drive helps to encourage blood donors when cold temperatures and flu season can slow donations.

The series between UK and Florida is tied 5-5. Donors will receive a Big Blue Slam long-sleeve T-shirt.

“Kentucky basketball season is always exciting and so is saving lives. We hope regular donors– and new donors, too –will want to prove they bleed blue during Big Blue Slam week,” said Martha Osborne, Kentucky Blood Center’s Vice President of Marketing.
