The case of University of Kentucky students charged with the February rape and strangulation of another UK student in an on-campus residence hall were sent to a grand jury at their preliminary hearing.
Addison Adkins, who has since withdrawn from UK, and Angus Thompson, appeared in district court on Thursday, April 17 for an evidentiary hearing.
After hearing testimony from a UK Police Detective about the events of and surrounding the alleged crime, Fayette County District Judge John Tackett ruled there was probable cause and the case would be bound over to the grand jury.
Adkins and Thompson were arrested on March 3 after a UK student reported to UKPD she was raped by both men. She also told police she was strangled by Adkins in his Ball Hall dorm room.
Both defendants are on home incarceration with exceptions for appointments and court dates. Neither Adkins nor Thompson can contact the victim, UK or each other.
The UKPD investigation began on Feb. 22, and after arrest warrants were issued, the university suspended both Adkins and Thompson and banned them from campus. Thompson remains enrolled at UK.
