Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear announced that President Donald Trump has approved public assistance for Kentucky communities affected by flooding in eastern Kentucky.
Beshear said he had been pushing for Trump to sign off on “an expedited emergency disaster declaration” to get the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to assist the first 10 Kentucky counties impacted by flooding, according to WKYT.
This will allow each person affected by flooding to receive up to $43,000 in federal aid, according to WKYT. Acting FEMA director Cameron Hamilton is coming to areas impacted by the flood on Tuesday, Feb. 25.
Beshear said the death toll from inclement flooding and weather has now reached 22. The emergency search and rescue phase in Kentucky has ended, the state moving into the stabilization phase of recovery, according to WKYT.
